Time Out, Logoff, and Restart Settings

MCC computers and applications have a variety of applied policy settings to be aware of. Here’s a list:

Setting

Time

Description

Screen lock

15 minutes

After 15 minutes of inactivity (no mouse or keyboard usage, no video or audio playing) your computer screen will lock, and it will require a password to unlock

System timeout

30 minutes

Many web systems are set to timeout after 30 minutes of inactivity (no mouse clicks, no actions taken, etc.). These systems will require that you log back in and you may lose unsaved work if this happens.

Colleague timeout

1 hour

After 1 hour of inactivity (no mouse clicks, no saved screens), Colleague will timeout and you will be required to log back in. You may lose unsaved work if this happens.

Logoff computer

8 hours

If you are logged into a computer but do not use any programs, you will be automatically logged out after 8 hours of inactivity. You will lose unsaved work and have to log back in. Make sure you log out when you are not using the computer (and save your work).

Computer restart

11:30pm

Computers will be set to restart every night at 11:30pm. This setting is being enabled to ensure that computers are ready to take security updates and are not causing network issues.

When you leave at the end of the day you should save any work and restart your computer. Don't log back in, just leave it on.

Classroom Logoff computer

1 hour

If you are logged into a classroom computer but do not use any programs, you will be automatically logged out after 1 hour of inactivity. You will lose unsaved work and have to log back in.
